My Valentine Roundup

Hello everyone!
Today I am showing off a few of my past
Valentine projects...
You may have seen them in older posts...
I gathered a few for my own favorite roundup!

I made this Valentine box for my mother,
using a chocolate box I had been saving for years!

This is a recycled project,
 using Restoration Hardware catalog pages...
cause they are too expensive to consider a purchase, ha!

These Valentine Hearts were teachers gifts,
the backside was coated in chalkboard paint
so they could be used as message door hangers.

Ahh, the Valentine Pinterest idea of 2013...
Everything paint chip...
although they didn't turn out as planned...
the ink smeared...they were cute and my son liked them.

Easiest banner ever...poke holes in cards,
string together, tie on some cute ribbon...
Voila!

Collage banner...this one was fun
you can see it here.

Another super easy poke holes string together banner...
Find it right here.
I had a good time putting together this sweet card,
I especially like the tissue paper flowers, and although
you can barely see it, the red polka dot
is on top of super old dictionary paper...

And this was a fun project...
see the details here.

Now this project did not go at all as planned...
The outside layer is wax paper, which if I remember
correctly from girl scouts as sticking together when ironed...
That didn't happen, so I hand stitched them!

I really need to invest in a Cricut or Silhouette...
My "L-o-v-e" isn't exactly what I was going for...

I just adore this set of Pink Persimmon stamps.
The little boy and girl are so fun to work with,
like paper dolls...
Plus, Pink Persimmon stamps stamp better than any others!

Well that's it for today!

Paperdolls!

As a little girl I loved dolls... baby dolls, Barbie dolls, and especially paper dolls. Paper dolls were inexpensive, and sometimes free (I am thinking of Betsy McCall in McCall's magazine and cutting the models out of the Sears catalog). They provided endless hours of fun, cutting the dolls and clothes out, and when I tore those up, making my own creations for the paper dolls.

Sadly, none of my paper dolls survived my childhood. I hadn't really thought much about paper dolls until seeing them on Pinterest, where I now have a pin board dedicated to "Paperdolls". Looking back over the McCall's paper dolls really brings back memories. I always looked forward to visiting my Grandmother, who subscribed to McCall's, and raiding her new issues for "more Betsy's"!

Recently, two of my Aunts have given me vintage paper dolls!

In this picture below are my Aunt Dorothy's paper dolls she played with as a child

There are several Shirley Temple dolls, and even a little boy paper doll!

Below is a book of "Little Women" Paper dolls given to me by Aunt Jane! Little Women was one of my favorite books when I was a pre-teen! My Mother has a beautifully illustrated copy of
Little Women that she "loaned" to me when I was 12.

As an adult, I still love paper dolls, though until I received these gifts,
I hadn't realized that is what I have been doing...playing paper dolls!

With my Pink Persimmon stamps of the little girl and boy, plus the Lottie doll stamps, I have been stamping my dolls, and restamping on patterned paper to cut out their clothes, and then using the paper dolls on cards, banners, tags, etc!

Here are my Lottie Doll paper dolls, along with my childhood china doll

I received this china doll as a gift from my Mamaw and Pappaw Silvernail, as you can see her toes are chipped, because I played house with her many hours under our backyard fig tree

Here is the Lottie Doll stamp set from Pink Persimmon, you can then go to their website and download the body and dress pattern. And you can make all the paper dolls and clothes your heart desires!!

Bittersweet

I make art, because it makes me happy. Sometimes, the items I make coincide with an event, and are appropriate, so I will give them away; a card, or banner usually. However, I have been presented with an opportunity: potentially sell my crafts.
I am excited, yet also dread this. The recipients of my crafts love me, therefore they support what I do. As I pondered what items to present to the shop that will be handling my art, I thought, "what if nobody likes my stuff?" "What if they don't like 1/2 of what I show?" ....
And then I realized, I was being a half glass empty kind of girl...I don't want to be that kind of girl, I will think positive, a glass half full, if they like 1/2 of my items, then that's a good thing!

Another thing that occurred to me...I am going to miss my art! I usually give my crafts to my family. And they keep them. I get to see them every time I visit their homes. My Mom has a big stash of cards I have made for her...my daughter-in-law has all their cards displayed on the chicken wire frame I made for her. If I sell my things, they will be gone forever...

So, here are a few pix of the cards I will be selling, just in case someone likes them well enough to buy them, I can look back on this post and see them!

Basic Grey paper, vintage book pages, Pink Persimmon stamp, vintage buttons, the pink button came off my grandmothers housecoat many years ago...I remember watching her cut them off and add them to her button jar!

Pink Persimmon stamps, the banner and Happy lettering....the flowers and hearts at the bottom were a little stamp from the dollar bin at Michael's. I embellished with book page leaves, colored pencils and markers

Basic Grey papers, and Pink Persimmon Stamps

This is one of my favorite cards, made with one of my favorite stamps, the little girl from Pink Persimmon. I saw this stamp in Lisa Paces' " It's in the Details" craft how to book, and searched online until I found it! I love Pink Persimmon stamps!

So, I am thrilled to be asked to sell my items, it is also bittersweet...my pieces are like good friends, I will miss them.

Odds and Ends

Our Easter weekend celebration went so well! We had a lovely time, lunching with all my children and my Mom, where I ate soooo much! I thought I would post a few pix of Easter, and then add a few pictures of past cards I created...

Here are our Easter eggs are cooling after boiling, so my boys can dye them...and below are the eggs made into deviled eggs after the hunt!

Bunny Garland

I made a sweet simple bunny garland for our celebration...

I drew a simple bunny outline on a scrap of thick paper, traced it onto a multitude of pastel colors, cut them out, and attached them to yellow gingham ribbon with tiny clips

A Sampling of my Cards

Below are a few of my past cards I handmade for my Mom...

This sweet card was made with my fave, Pink Persimmon stamps, the little girl, wagon, and Happy Birthday banner.

A Christmas card, I honestly do not remember the products
(this was a card from two Christmas's past)

 My pink and orange phase!
The crown was made with Spellbinders die, inked with Stampin Up inks, and then I used Stickles and baby pearls to glitz it up! The orange and pink tag in the background, along with the pink zebra print ribbon id Theresa Collins.

Sew Sweet

Ahh, this is one of favorite cards, I actually saw a very similar card in a stamp magazine, and searched online to find the stamp, and then dug through my scrap box to find papers close to the picture...
I like the card because I have many "sew sweet" memories of my mother and grandmother sewing for me! When I would complain of boredom, my grandmother would actually stop what she was doing, search through her quilt scraps and sew me up a new Barbie outfit lickitysplit!
I was one lucky little girl!

Will You Be My Valentine?

Well my creative juices are flowing once again, now that I have cleaned my crafty space...I have been making Valentines out of leftover scrapbooking and book-print paper, wax paper, thread, ribbon, and a little bit of glitter...oh and a couple of rub-ons also.
I saw something similiar on Pinterest.com , one was from blog.crescendoh.com and the other was from beckyshander.com ...so I have used their general idea, but put my twist on it!

Here's a pix of mine...

It is a heart cut out of "My Minds Eye" paper, with a rub on "love" by Glitz, and a sweet little stamped tattoo type bird by Pink Persimmon Stamps....all samwiched togther between two pieces of wax paper cut with pinking shears...I thought I could just iron the wax paper and it would stick together...but that didn't work, so I hand stitched the wax paper together with light pink floss.
Now, I am going to have to investigate why this wax paper didn't melt and stick together...I know you have to get the right sides together... but many years ago, way back in my Brownie days, we used to collect leaves, flowers and such, and iron them between wax paper...and presto! it would stick...hmmm

Anyway, from there I went to brown paper hearts (I found a huge roll of brown paper when I cleaned out my craft space closet! Imagine that...) I stitched them together with a little stuffing inside...See below:

This one has "My Minds Eye" ribbon, and the cute little ticket, the word sticker (that you cant see very well) says "remember" and is from The Girls Paperie.

Here are some more I am working on...

I think my next trip to the craft store , I will pick up a bottle of essential oil in a yummy fragrence, and put a few drops on the padding, to make the hearts little sachets!
I will also be making some of these boy themed, I have some Cosmo Cricket paper and rub-ons that will look really cute!
